Paul accuses Reid of breaking his word on Patriot Act amendments
Paul had demanded several controversial amendments to the Patriot Act, but Reid on Tuesday used a few different procedural measures to block the amendments and move to a final vote. The Patriot Act is set to expire 12:01 a.m. Friday.
The Senate still faces a challenge in extending the Patriot Act before it expires. It is unclear whether Paul will waive 30 hours of debate he is entitled to even after Reid’s maneuvers. Even if Paul does agree to waive that time, a copy of the Patriot Act will need to be flown to Europe for President Obama’s signature.
Paul has not spoken on the Senate floor since Monday afternoon.
