Senate to vote on second ethanol amendment on Thursday

“There are real concerns about the process used to bring this amendment to the floor, and I think that has created some, unfortunately, very bad feelings which even are enough to affect people’s votes,” said Sen. Diane Feinstein, a cosponsor of Coburn’s amendment.

Feinstein added that she thought the amendment might have a chance of passage if it had been brought up in a different way and when Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) promised he would call up her amendment through regular order at a later date, Feinstein ended up voting against the amendment offered by Coburn.

Reid made good on his promise Wednesday night and scheduled a vote on the amendment, formally called the Ethanol Subsidy and Tariff for around 2 p.m. on Thursday.  That amendment will recquire a 60-vote threshold to obtain passage.
