GOP senator suggests the president take a Valium in order to calm down

Sen. Pat Roberts (R-Kan.) on Thursday said President Obama should pop a Valium to calm down before coming to talk with Congress about a deficit deal.

{mosads}“Now he says it isn’t worth his time to come down and talk with Republicans,” said Roberts. “I remember when he talked to Republicans before and all we got was a lecture.

“So maybe if he would just take a Valium and calm down and come down and talk to us it might be helpful,” he added.

“The president indicated that we are all going to work,” Roberts said at a press conference with Senate Republicans. “Well, we are going to be here and, unfortunately, not working on a deal because a deal does not exist.”

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) on Thursday invited Obama to the Capitol to hear why Republicans can’t support tax increases, but the White House rebuffed McConnell’s invitation.

In return, Republicans have been hammering the president for the refusal and for his comments in a Wednesday press conference wherein he mocked Congress’s work schedule.
