Wednesday: ‘Shared sacrifice’ in the Senate
Senate Democrats on Tuesday also placed S. 1326 on the calendar, which is aimed at increasing the debt ceiling as requested by President Obama. This bill was introduced by Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky). — not Senate Democrats, as we said late Tuesday (since corrected here). More details on Paul’s bill later this morning…
The House returns at 2 p.m. for legislative work, which involves three bills today. The House will resume consideration of H.R. 2219, the Department of Defense Appropriations Act; members are expected to begin work on amendments today.
The House will also hold suspension votes on two bills; these bills will require the support of two-thirds of voting members for approval.
The first is H.Res. 268, which reaffirms the U.S. commitment to a negotiated settlement of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict through direct negotiations. The second is H.R. 515, the Belarus Democracy Reauthorization Act.
