Corker: Debt deal like ‘kissing your sister’

Sen. Bob Corker (R-Tenn.) on Monday described the deal to raise the nation’s debt ceiling as like “kissing your sister.”

The bill produced by Congress was a disappointment to Corker, he said in a speech in Memphis, according to The Memphis Flyer.

It was “kind of like kissing your sister, I guess, not exactly what we had in mind,” the junior senator from Tennessee, who voted for passage of the bill, reportedly said.

Corker said in a future deficit-reduction package, he hopes to see a closing of tax loopholes as well as “flattening and broadening the tax code” in order to raise revenue while lowering taxes.

Corker also noted in his speech to the Memphis Area Association of Realtors that he was disappointed he had not been tapped to join the 12-member supercommittee.

The supercommittee “was right up my alley,” said Corker.
