The idea of legislating ‘groundbreaking’ for Dems, says McConnell

“I know that might sound like a groundbreaking idea to some of my colleagues on the other side who would rather spend all their time putting together legislation aimed at sending a political message,” continued the Republican leader.

Both McConnell and his counterpart, Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.), have spent much of this year accusing each other of crafting partisan legislation designed to create uncomfortable votes that will serve as talking points in the 2012 election.

If the Senate passes the pending Republican bill to repeal a tax on contracts businesses make with the government and its Democratic amendment, which would create jobs for veterans, it will be the first time this year the parties have come together to pass so-called “jobs” legislation.
