“There is not much doubt about her fitness to serve on the Court of Appeals,” said Alexander, who went on to call her a “pioneer” for her role as an African-American woman in pushing for integration in Tennessee.

Republican Sens. David Vitter (La.) and Jim DeMint (S.C.) voted against the nomination.
