Reid calls on House to return to Washington this week

Reid’s demand came despite the fact that the Senate passed, at his suggestion, a special short-term spending resolution designed to allow leaders in the House to fund the government past the end of the fiscal year on Friday by the procedural mechanism of unanimous consent that does not demand a quorum.

“I hope the House will return to work this week and finish the job on this bill,” said Reid in a statement released to reporters Monday night. “I am optimistic that the we will be able to continue to find common ground as we work to address our nation’s priorities over the next few months.”

The House is currently in a weeklong recess to accommodate the Jewish high holidays which begin on Tuesday night.

The Senate passed several executive nominations en bloc before adjourning at around 9:45 p.m. Monday night.
