Obama’s ‘jobs’ bill designed to fail says McConnell

“The president’s advisors have said they’re counting on a do-nothing Congress,” continued McConnell. “That’s why we’ll be voting on legislation today that’s designed to fail.”

The stimulus language being pushed by Obama and Democratic leadership would spend about $447 million in the short-term and be paid for over 10-years with a tax hike on those earning more than one-million dollars annually.

McConnell’s speech came on the heels of a speech from Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) in which he promoted the job’s legislation in familiar terms.

“This work is essential and Americans are desperate for the jobs it would create,” said Reid in response to a challenge from Republican Sen. Bob Corker (Tenn.) over timing of the vote on Obama’s bill.

Reid’s last-minute promotion of the bill comes before a vote in which it will almost certainly fail to move forward as all Republicans and some moderate Democrats are opposed to it.
