Moderate Senate Dems still grappling with Obama ‘jobs’ bill
“I do not believe we should raise taxes on ordinary earned income,” said Webb from the floor.
Democratic-caucusing Sen. Joseph Lieberman (I-Conn.) also expressed reservation over President Obama’s $447 billion jobs plan which would pay for itself by raising taxes on the wealthy.
“I don’t believe that the potential in this act for creating jobs justifies adding another half a trillion dollars to our almost $15 trillion nation debt,” he said. “In fact I think the most important thing we can do to… create jobs is bringing our national debt under control.
Lieberman suggested he plans to vote to move the bill to the floor for debate, while opposing the underlying legislation.
Sen. Joe Manchin (D-W.V.) also indicated on Tuesday afternoon that he had not yet determined how he would cast his vote on the bill.
