“Nobody voted us to police the world,” added Frank.
In particular the Massachusetts liberal argued slashing the military’s budget was among the least painful paths towards reducing the deficit.
“The military is the least-efficient way to spend any given dollar,” said Frank. “I have not heard a sensible argument for keeping the military this big.”
If the new congressional supercommittee tasked with cutting federal spending is not able to come up with an agreement by mid-November that can clear both chambers, $600 billion in defense spending cuts will automatically be triggered.
