Reid sets up Wednesday battle over road beautification
McCain and other Senate Republicans, in particular Tom Coburn (R-Okla.), have argued for years that federal highway funds are being wasted on beautification projects.
Reid on Tuesday night said McCain and Sen. Barbara Boxer (D-Calif.) would split time Wednesday morning in debating the measure, and then a vote would be held at around noon.
The Senate adjourned shortly after 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, and will return at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday. McCain’s amendment is the first to be considered to H.R. 2112, which will serve as the vehicle for the Agriculture, Rural Development, Food and Drug Administration and Related Agencies spending bill.
