Sen. Crapo looks to limit CFTC rules
Crapo’s amendment would prevent the CFTC from issuing any rules until the agency determines that its rules will be “economically beneficial.” It would also require the CFTC to publish a schedule outlining the order in which final rules will be released.
It would also require the CFTC to clarify that it will not impose new margin requirements on end users, and limit the extraterritorial reach of these margin requirements. Dodd-Frank requires entities participating in commodity swaps to meet certain margin requirements.
The Senate was planning to hold a series of votes at 6 p.m. Wednesday, but those votes were delayed, and it was unclear when the Senate might move to votes, and on which of several amendments might be voted on.
— This story was corrected to reflect that Crapo is from Idaho.
