Senate votes to confirm two district judges

The Senate voted Monday to confirm two U.S. district judges.

The Senate voted 90-0 to confirm Debra Brown as U.S. District Judge for the Northern District of Mississippi.

{mosads}“I am very pleased to support this nomination,” Sen. Thad Cochran (R-Miss.) said. “Ms. Debra Brown is very well qualified for this position.”

The Senate also confirmed the nomination of Gregory Woods by voice-vote. He will serve as U.S. District Judge for the Southern District of New York.

After several senators failed to return to the Capitol last Monday, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) warned that there would be more votes scheduled at the beginning of the week since some senators weren’t taking the Monday votes “seriously.”

Ten senators still missed the first Monday votes.

The Senate is expected to vote on whether to proceed to an employment discrimination bill later in the day.
