Reid: ObamaCare is ‘working’

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) said Thursday that ObamaCare is working and Republicans’ criticisms are “jokes.”

“This legislation is working, and it will be working better once we get the website up,” Reid said on the Senate floor. “People are benefiting. … ObamaCare is wonderful for America — get over it.”

{mosads}Reid admitted that HealthCare.gov isn’t working properly, but the administration has said the website will be up and running by the end of the month. But the website failures have caused some Democrats to file legislation tweaking the law.

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) prompted Reid’s remarks. McConnell said 50 times more Kentuckians have lost the insurance they had and liked than have signed up for insurance on the ObamaCare health exchange.

“Many just want the government to leave them alone,” McConnell said Thursday. “Many just want to keep the plans they like, not just the ones the president likes.”

McConnell said Democrats should work with Republicans to replace the healthcare law, but Reid said Republicans haven’t put forward any legislation that improves the current law.

“I wish that my Republican colleague would do something constructive regarding healthcare,” Reid said. “I think we’d all be better off if that were in fact the case.”

Republicans have called for a full repeal of the law, or at the very least delay for one year of the individual mandate requiring people to have health insurance or face a tax penalty.
