Lautenberg casts 9000th vote to standing ovation

Before casting the vote, Lautenberg graciously thanked both leaders, his collegues and the people of New Jersey.

“I am glad we are not taking a vote on whether or not I should be commended for this, it might not pass,” cracked Lautenberg. “I thank all of you. Even those with whom I might sometimes disagree.”

“The people of New Jersey were very kind over these years by electing me five times to the Senate and giving me the honor and opportunity to give something back to this country of ours,” he concluded.
