Senate postpones votes until Wednesday

The Senate has postponed all votes until Wednesday because of the March snow storm hitting the Washington region and much of the Northeast.

A formal announcement on the Senate floor will be made Monday afternoon. 

{mosads}The Senate was originally scheduled to take a procedural vote Monday evening on an executive branch nominee.

That vote was first postponed until Tuesday, and now is bumped until 11:45 a.m. on Wednesday.

“Because of the inclement weather we have had to change things around significantly,” Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) said Monday. “We’re going to do our utmost to get everything done Wednesday and Thursday … [but] if not, we may have to be here Friday.”

The Senate will spend the rest of the week debating and clearing other nominations.

More than 2,000 flights have been canceled along the Northeast coast, making it difficult for lawmakers to get back into town.

So far the House is still scheduled to be in session tomorrow.
