Dem Rep. Pingree wants troops out of Afghanistan by end of 2012
“My thoughts, especially at this time of year, are also with the men and women who continue to serve in Afghanistan,” Pingree wrote Thursday in an editorial that appeared in the Dover, N.H., newspaper, the Foster Daily Democrat.
“I appreciate their service and am proud that they perform their duties with such honor but I think it’s time for them to come home as well,” said Pingree. “I hope we can see that in 2012.”
Pingree’s Christmas wish, however, is unlikely to come true. Although President Obama’s plan for the war-torn country includes a withdrawal of 33,000 surge troops by September of 2012, he also intends to keep around 70,000 American boots on the ground into 2013.
