Senate votes to confirm Obama nominees

The Senate confirmed three of President Obama’s executive branch nominees by voice-votes Wednesday.

{mosads}Tomasz Malinowski was confirmed to be Assistant Secretary of State for Democracy, Human Rights, and Labor.

The Senate also confirmed Portia Wu as an Assistant Secretary of Labor and Deborah Birx to be U.S. ambassador to combat HIV/AIDS globally.

The Senate considered these nominations while waiting out the debate clock on a five-month extension to unemployment insurance benefits. Final passage of that bill is expected Thursday.
