Schumer says US military should only use US steel
A similar requirement was lifted by the Pentagon in 2009 allowing some steel work to be done abroad since the military demand for steel was high due to the wars being waged in Iraq and Afghanistan.
But Schumer argued on Monday that that change is damaging the domestic job market and could possibly compromise the safety of troops relying on foreign-made metals, local Syracuse, N.Y., television station Your News Now reported on Tuesday.
“This rule is stealing jobs from Nucor and other manufacturers across the state,” Schumer said at the press conference at Nucor. “Keeping America strong and having good paying jobs and manufacturing jobs, which are beginning to come back to Upstate New York, is really important to our Upstate economy.”
