Rep. Poe calls the upper chamber the ‘Siesta Senate’

“As your representative in Washington I’m frustrated,” Poe said, fielding a question on the legislative gridlock in Washington. “There are 28 bills sitting in the Senate. I call them the ‘Siesta Senate’ because they don’t vote.”

Republicans who control the House often complained from the floor last year that the Senate took up and debated very little of the legislation pushed through the lower chamber by its large GOP majority.

In his speech, reported by the Humble Observer of Humble, Texas, Poe also suggested that the U.S.-Mexico border ought to be shored up with equipment returning from the war zone in Iraq.

“We have a lot of troops coming back from Iraq and a lot of equipment coming back from Iraq. Why not put their equipment to use along the border?” he asked.
