Roberts to Sanders: Have a ‘Coke’

After an impassioned speech about how billionaires David and Charles Koch are ruining U.S. democracy, it was suggested that Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) should relax and “have a Coke.”

Sen. Pat Roberts (R-Kan.) admitted his comment was a “bad pun.”

{mosads}“I know the senator wants to leave the floor and get out of town like everyone else,” Roberts said on the Senate floor Thursday. “But perhaps he could relax and just go out and have a Coke.”

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) and Democrats have been criticizing the Koch brothers, who contribute millions of dollars to conservative campaigns, especially after a recent Supreme Court ruling that allows unlimited campaign donations.

Sanders said Reid and others are simply trying to educate the public on what the Koch brothers are buying with their campaign contributions. He said the Republican Party priorities have evolved into what used to be “extremist” libertarian views advocated by the Kochs.

“There has been a lot of criticism of Sen. Reid’s comments about the Koch brothers,” Sanders said. “He’s trying to educate the people. … I think it’s important that we know what the Koch brothers believe.”

Sanders said the Koch brothers want to eliminate all personal and corporate taxes — basically ending all government — among other things.
