Monday: Senate to consider more nominations

The Senate will vote on two more of President Obama’s nominations — one executive and one judicial — on Monday.

{mosads}The Senate starts at 2 p.m., but votes on the confirmation of Nancy Moritz to be a U.S. Circuit Judge for the Tenth Circuit and Peter Selfridge to be Chief of Protocol won’t start until 5:30 p.m.

Last week, the Senate voted 60-38 to end debate on Moritz’s nomination. 

She has bipartisan support and Sen. Jerry Moran (R-Kan.) gave her a glowing endorsement. The Tenth Circuit encompasses several midwestern states, including Kansas.

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) has made clearing President Obama’s executive and judicial nominations a priority during the Congress. 

Reid even went so far as to use the “nuclear option” to change the Senate filibuster rules limiting Republicans’ ability to block nominees.

The House is not in session Monday.
