Klobuchar demands US find kidnapped Nigerian girls

In an emotional speech, Sen. Amy Klobuchar (D-Minn.) called on the United States to do more to find more than 200 Nigerian girls who have been kidnapped and are being auctioned off by a terrorist organization.

{mosads}“Lets call this what it is — the most brazen and shocking incidents of human trafficking,” Klobuchar said on the Senate floor Monday. “This heinous crime demands that we take action immediately.”

Islamist militant group, Boko Haram, kidnapped 276 schoolgirls in Nigeria last month. Leaders of the terrorist group have said they will sell the girls.

Klobuchar said the United States should lead that international effort to locate the girls and dismantle the terrorist organization. She said the administration should seek a resolution from United Nations Security Council condemning the act, use satellite surveillance technology to locate the girls and help local authorities fight the terrorist group.

“Human trafficking is a stain on the world,” Klobuchar said. “Fortunately after this weekend the world is finally paying attention and I hope this chamber will pay attention.”

Over the weekend, Secretary of State John Kerry said the United States would aid Nigeria in resolving the situation.
