Senate passes bill repealing stationary contract requirements

The Senate passed a bill Thursday that repeals certain requirements regarding newspaper advertising of Senate stationery contracts.

{mosads}Sen. Jeanne Shaheen (D-N.H.) introduced S. 2197, which would eliminate the requirement that the Secretary of the Senate solicit bids each year through local newspaper advertisements to supply the Senate with stationery.

The Congressional Budget Office (CBO) estimated that the bill would save less than $10,000 a year because of lower procurement costs.

The Senate passed the bill through a unanimous consent agreement, sending it to the House for further action.

Sens. John Hoeven (R-N.D.), Pat Roberts (R-Kan.) and Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) are cosponsors of the bill, which was introduced last month.
