Cornyn: Reid ‘routinely slanders’ Republicans

Sen. John Cornyn (R-Texas) said Tuesday that Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) “routinely slanders” Republicans and their constituents on the Senate floor.

“I find these comments insulting, disrespectful and embarrassing,” Cornyn said. “How are we ever expected to make compromises?”

{mosads}Cornyn pointed to a recent comment Reid made, comparing Republican senators to “greased pigs” because they kept running away from deals that had agreed to and changing their demands.

Republican had agreed to pass a bipartisan energy efficiency bill in exchange for a vote on the construction of the Keystone XL pipeline, but at the last minute they also demanded at least five amendment votes. Reid objected to allowing any amendments and the bill died Monday.

Cornyn said Reid was running the Senate as if he were a “dictator.”

“The Majority Leader in essence has become a dictator,” Cornyn said. “[And] he routinely slanders members of this body and our constituents.”

Reid has been critical of Republican donors, David and Charles Koch, saying their trying to buy America through campaign donations. He blames the Kochs for Republican obstruction of measures such as raising the minimum wage and improving energy efficiency. The Kochs have made billions of dollars for the oil industry.
