King: White House taking ‘excessive’ time to release report

Sen. Angus King (I-Maine) said Friday that, “Eisenhower retook Europe faster” than the Obama administration is releasing a report on the Central Intelligence Agency’s (CIA) detention and interrogation program.

{mosads}“The administration and the CIA have had the substance of this study for well over a year,” King said Friday. “I recognize that it often takes time to declassify information of this nature, but this is excessive. Eisenhower retook Europe faster.”

King pressed the Obama administration to release a redacted version of the Senate Intelligence Committee’s study of the Agency’s report. The committee voted to declassify the summary of its study on April 3.

The Intelligence Committee’s report concluded that former President George W. Bush’s detention and interrogation tactics, such as water boarding, were unjustified and didn’t yield helpful information.

The administration has been dragging its feet on releasing the report despite campaign promises to be the most open and transparent White House.

King’s comments were prompted by reports that the administration had asked for more time.
