Reid marks Brown v Board of Education anniversary

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) thanked the Brown family for standing up against inequality nearly 60 years ago.

{mosads}“After six decades our nation still owes a debt to those few brave individuals who stood up against segregation in our nation’s schools,” Reid said on the Senate floor Tuesday. “No one can depute that we’re better off because of Brown v. Board of Education.”

Saturday marked the 60th anniversary of the Supreme Court decision in Brown v. Board of Education, which struck down “separate but equal” laws and forced the integration of U.S. schools. The decision was unanimous.

“That decision changed America,” Reid said. “But sadly we still see racism rear its ugly head.”

Reid referenced comments from a libertarian Nevada ranger, Cliven Bundy, who recently said African Americans would be “better off as slaves.”
