Senate leaders marked the 70th anniversary of D-Day, the allied invasion of Normandy, France, during World War II.
{mosads}Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) and Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) applauded the brave efforts of more than 150,000 troops that invaded France to fight Hitler’s “evil savagery.”
“The proof of these soldiers bravery can be seen in far away France even today … because there are massive graves all over Europe,” Reid said on the Senate floor Thursday. “We must never forget the price they paid to not only protect us but the entire world.”
Reid said that more than 10 senators are traveling Thursday to France in order to attend an event on June 6, marking the anniversary. President Obama will also be attending the event.
