Senate advances Citizenship and Immigration Services nominee
The Senate on Tuesday advanced the nomination of Leon Rodriguez to be director of the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services.
Senators voted 52-44 to invoke cloture, or end debate, on Rodriguez’s nomination.
{mosads}The agency, which is housed within the Department of Homeland Security, processes asylum and refugee applications as well as naturalization and visa petitions.
Rodriguez currently serves as the director of the Office for Civil Rights in the Department of Health and Human Services.
A vote to confirm Rodriguez will take place at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday.
