Wednesday: Outsourcing jobs, human trafficking

The Senate starts at 9:30 a.m. and will hold a procedural vote at 11 a.m. on a bill that would end tax breaks for companies that send jobs overseas.

It’s unlikely Democrats will get at least five Republicans to vote with them to advance S. 2569, the Bring Jobs Home Act.

{mosads}Sens. John Walsh (D-Mont.) and Debbie Stabenow (D-Mich.) introduced the bill, which would give companies incentives to bringing jobs back to the United States, including a tax credit of up to 20 percent of relocating costs.

Republicans argue that if Democrats truly wanted to keep companies in the United States, they would work with Republicans to overhaul the tax code and reduce corporate tax rates.

The Senate will also vote on confirmation of the following nominations:

– Julia Akins Clark to be General Counsel of the Federal Labor Relations Authority.

– Andrew Schapiro to be U.S. ambassador to the Czech Republic.

– Madelyn Creedon to be Principal Deputy Administrator of the National Nuclear Security Administration.

All three are expected to be confirmed by voice-votes.

The House will consider several bills under suspension of the rules aimed at combatting human trafficking.

It will also consider H.R. 3136, a bill to direct the Secretary of Education to select institutions of higher education for participation in Competency-Based Education Demonstration Programs.
