Thursday: Child tax credit, outsourcing jobs

The House will consider a measure to overhaul the child tax credit by requiring applicants to provide their Social Security numbers. Such a change would effectively prevent undocumented immigrants from qualifying for the $1,000 refundable child tax credit.

It will also consider a bill, H.R. 4984, to provide students with financial counseling for college.

{mosads}The Senate starts at 9:30 a.m. and will continue to debate the Bring Jobs Home Act, which would end tax breaks for companies that send jobs overseas.

On Wednesday, the Senate voted 93-7 to procedurally advance the bill, but Republicans are expected to pull their support for the legislation unless they get to offer amendments.

At 1:45 p.m. the Senate will vote on the motion to proceed to that bill.

The Senate will also vote to end debate on the nomination of Pamela Harris to be U.S. Circuit Judge for the Fourth Circuit and to confirm the nomination of Lisa Disbrow to be an Assistant Secretary of the Air Force.

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) also announced agreement to hold votes on proposals to fund federal transportation projects through next spring. Those votes will occur at a time to be determined by leaders, which could be Thursday or next week.
