Reid decries ‘cold-blooded’ killing of US general

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) offered his condolences Wednesday to the family of U.S. Maj. Gen. Harold Greene, the highest-ranking fatality in the Afghanistan War.

“I’m deeply saddened by the cold-blooded killing of an American hero,” Reid said Wednesday. “My deepest condolences rest with General Greene’s friends and family.”

{mosads}An Afghan soldier killed the two-star general at close range at a military training academy in Kabul, Afghanistan and 15 people were wounded in Tuesday’s shooting.

Greene was the deputy commander of the Combined Security Transition Command-Afghanistan.

“In his thirty years of dedicated service to the Army, General Greene ensured that our troops had the resources necessary to get the job done and the best equipment available so they could protect our country,” Reid said. “This tragic and senseless act also wounded brave American and other members of the NATO International Security Assistance Force. I pray for their speedy recovery and will keep them in my thoughts.”
