Senate Committee to revisit Sen. Stevens’s prosecution next week

Stevens, who died in a 2008 airplane crash in a remote region of Alaska, had recently lost his reelection bid after being convicted for allegedly failing to report gifts he had received while serving as a U.S. senator. The conviction was ruled null months after his death, after Attorney General Eric holder concluded that prosecutors had engaged in dishonest practices by withholding evidence. 

In his report, released Thursday, Schuelke said misconduct among the prosecution was “intentional,” but he stopped short of calling for charges against the prosecution, saying “the evidence is insufficient to establish” that prosecutors purposely violated criminal contempt statutes.
