Heinrich calls for $10.10 minimum wage
Sen. Martin Heinrich (D-N.M.) called for an increase in the federal minimum wage.
“Tackling income inequality will strengthen New Mexico families,” Heinrich said Monday. “It’s time to raise the minimum wage to $10.10 per hour for all workers across the country.”
{mosads}Senate Republicans have blocked Democrats’ attempts to increase the federal minimum wage from $7.25 an hour to $10.10 over three years.
The Fair Minimum Wage Act, which Heinrich has cosponsored, raises the minimum wage to $10.10 an hour because that would lift a full-time minimum wage earner above the poverty level. The bill would also index future wage increases to inflation.
Democrats have used Republican votes against the legislation in midterm election campaigns, saying the GOP doesn’t care about low-income and middle-class families.
