McCain: Mexico took too long to release jailed Marine
Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) said it took Mexican authorities too long to release a retired U.S. Marine.
“This case clearly took too long to be resolved, but I respect the Mexican authorities and thank them for bringing it to a reasonable conclusion,” McCain said Saturday.
{mosads}Retired Marine Sgt. Andrew Tahmooressi was released over the weekend after being detained in a Mexican jail for eight months after bringing a loaded gun across the border.
“I am deeply gratified that Marine Corps veteran Andrew Tahmooressi was released by Mexican authorities last night and has returned home to his family in the United States,” McCain said.
McCain applauded Rep. Matt Salmon (R-Ariz.) for “bringing this important issue to the attention of the American people.” Salmon and McCain had been pushing the Mexican government to release the veteran, who has suffered from post-traumatic stress disorder since serving in Afghanistan.
