Chaplain Black prays for outgoing senators

Senate Chaplain Barry Black prayed for both incoming and outgoing senators on lawmakers’ first day back after the midterm elections.

“As we prepare to turn to a new chapter in United States Senate history, we pause to acknowledge that you are our light and salvation,” Black said Wednesday. “Empower our lawmakers who are coming and going, sustaining them in all of their tomorrows.”

{mosads}Last week, Republicans gained more than enough seats to take control of the upper chamber at the start of next year.

Black said he hopes senators listen not only to their constituents, but also God.

“As our senators seek to respond to the voices of the American people, may they make it their top priority to listen to your whisper,” Black prayed.
