Franken: SNL is more fun than Senate

Sen. Al Franken (D-Minn.) gave a satirical floor speech Thursday while bidding farewell to Sen. Mark Begich (D-Alaska).

{mosads}The former “Saturday Night Live” writer and cast member delivered jokes and jabbed with colleagues while saying goodbye to Begich, who lost his reelection race in November.

Franken said it was always fun with this group of lawmakers, but then made the point that it still doesn’t compare to SNL.

“Everyone asks me, is being a senator as much fun as being on ‘Saturday Night Live?’ And the answer is no,” Franken said to laugher in the chamber. “But it’s the best job I’ve ever had.”

Franken said the Senate could use more mayors, which Begich was. He then added that the chamber could also use more satirists.
