Senate passes river protection bill

The Senate passed a bill Thursday aiming to keep an Oregon river scenic.

{mosads}H.R. 2640, the Central Oregon Jobs and Water Security Act, requires hydropower developers along the Crooked River in Oregon to consider the affect their projects would have on the scenic river when they submit any license application to the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission.

The Senate passed the measure through a unanimous consent agreement. The House passed the bill last year, but because the Senate added an amendment from Sen. Jeff Merkley (D-Ore.), it heads back to the House.

Congress is clearing several bills before adjournment for the year.
