Reid to make Monday return to Senate
Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) is back to work on Monday, one week after undergoing eye surgery.
Reid spokesman Adam Jentleson said the minority leader will deliver opening remarks when the Senate convenes at 4 p.m. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) will also make comments.
{mosads}Doctors at The George Washington University Hospital performed surgery last week to repair broken facial bones and drain blood from Reid’s right eye. It remains unclear whether Reid will regain sight in that eye after an exercising accident on New Year’s Day.
Reid has been working from his Washington home many days over the last month as he recuperates from his injuries. Senate Minority Whip Dick Durbin (D-Ill.) has been managing floor duties in Reid’s absence.
The only scheduled Senate vote on Monday will be at 5:30 p.m. to pass a bill creating programs aimed at preventing veterans’ suicides. Now-retired Sen. Tom Coburn (R-Okla.) blocked it in the last Congress.
