Friday: DHS deadline

Lawmakers will vote on legislation Friday to fund the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), which runs out of money at the end of the day.

House lawmakers are expected to debate and vote on a short-term spending bill that would fund the DHS through March 19.

{mosads}They’re also scheduled to vote on a motion to send a separate bill to fund the department through September to a conference committee. Senate Democrats, however, have vowed to to block the bill from going to conference.

The House will also finish considering amendments to the No Child Left Behind Act rewrite and vote on final passage.

The House convenes at 9 a.m. First votes on Friday will be around 10:20 a.m. – 11:20 a.m.

Meanwhile, the Senate has scheduled a string of votes for Friday morning on legislation that would fund the DHS through September.

Senators are expected to take a cloture vote on the House-passed DHS bill, a vote on an amendment to remove the immigration measures from the bill and then a final vote to pass the new DHS bill.

But, the Senate will also likely vote on a separate short-term funding bill if the House passes similar legislation.

The Senate is also expected to vote on whether or not to move forward with an immigration proposal that would reverse Obama’s executive actions from November.

The Senate convenes at 9:30 a.m. First votes are expected to begin at 10 a.m.
