Monday: Healthcare, nominations
The House reconvenes Monday after a week-long recess.
House lawmakers will vote on a string of healthcare-related bills under suspension of the rules. One bill under consideration would exempt volunteer firefighters from an ObamaCare requirement that employers with 50 or more workers offer health insurance.
{mosads}The House will convene at noon for morning hour debate, before moving to legislative business at 2 p.m. Votes are expected around 6:30 p.m.
Meanwhile, the Senate is expected to vote on two nominations Monday: Carlos Monje to be an assistant secretary of Transportation and Manson Brown to be an assistant secretary of Commerce.
Senators will also continue to debate the Justice for Victims of Trafficking Act. The legislation stalled in the Senate last week after Democrats threatened to block the bill because of the inclusion of the Hyde Amendment, which blocks the use of federal funds for abortions.
The Senate will reconvene at 3 p.m. for an hour of morning business. They’ll then move to debate over the anti-trafficking legislation.
Votes on the Monje and Brown nominations are expected around 5:30 p.m.
