Senators oppose climate change amendment
Senators on Wednesday opposed an amendment from Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) on climate change.
Senators voted 49-50, blocking the amendment from being included in the Republican budget resolution.
{mosads}The amendment from Sanders, who is considering a potential 2016 presidential bid, called on lawmakers to recognize that climate change is real and caused by human activity. The amendment also called on Congress to take action to cut carbon pollution.
Sanders suggested that a vote for his amendment was a vote for science. Sen. Mike Enzi (R-Wyo.), however, said ahead of the vote that he hopes senators “will vote no.”
“I’m going to urge my colleagues to vote ‘no’ on amendment 777,” said Enzi, the chairman of the Budget Committee. “I think there’s some problems with the amendment and hope that my colleagues will vote no.”
