Senate confirms Texas judge
The Senate voted 95-0 Monday to confirm Alfred Bennett to be a district judge for the Southern District of Texas.
Bennett was passed out of the Judiciary Committee in late February.
{mosads}His confirmation by the Senate is the latest in a series of nominations passed unanimously and with little fanfare by lawmakers after they returned to Washington on Monday afternoon.
Republican Sens. Kelly Ayotte (N.H.) and Pat Toomey (Pa.), as well as Republican 2016 hopefuls Sens. Marco Rubio (Fla.), Ted Cruz (Texas) and Lindsey Graham (S.C.), didn’t vote.
Cruz, Graham and Rubio have missed more roll-call votes so far this year than every senator except Minority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.). The Nevada Democrat missed weeks of Senate work earlier this year because of an exercise accident that forced him to undergo surgery.
