Reid: GOP wants ‘war’ on the middle class
Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) said Wednesday that Republicans are trying to start a “war” on middle-class Americans.
{mosads}”Republicans … are hell-bent on passing a budget that creates a war on the middle class, and serves the interest of special interests and super wealthy” Reid said.
Reid said the Republican budget, which passed the Senate last month, cuts healthcare for millions of Americans and undermines job-training programs.
Senators are expected to vote Wednesday morning on going to a conference committee with House lawmakers to try to reconcile their budgets. Another vote is expected later Wednesday to name conferees.
The Nevada Democrat said the conference committee is a “joke.”
“There will be no meeting of the conferees,” he said. “There will be a meeting held by the Republicans. Democrats won’t be invited.”
Reid said that Democrats will offer budget amendments on equal pay, granting benefits to same-sex couples, student loan reform and climate change’s impact on national security.
