Monday: Nomination, trafficking
Senators will return Monday to vote on a judicial nomination.
Senators are scheduled to vote around 5:30 p.m. on George Hanks, Jr. to be a United States District Judge for the Southern District of Texas. Senators also voted last week to confirm Alfred Bennett to the same court.
{mosads}Senators will convene at 2 p.m. on Monday. Following any leader remarks, they’ll restart consideration of the Justice for Victims of Trafficking Act, before moving to Hanks’ nomination.
The legislation has been stalled by a weeks-long fight over an abortion provision. But, senators on both sides of the aisle suggested late last week that they were closing in on a deal.
Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) also said Thursday evening that the Senate could vote on the anti-trafficking legislation early this week.
Meanwhile, House lawmakers will convene at 2 p.m. for a pro forma session with no votes expected.
