Wednesday: Iran
Senators will resume consideration Wednesday of a key piece of Iran legislation, after Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) moved to end debate on Tuesday evening.
The Senate is expected to convene at 9:30 a.m. for leader remarks and morning business, before moving to the Iran legislation around 10:30 a.m.
{mosads}The legislation, spearheaded by Sen. Bob Corker (R-Tenn.), would allow Congress to weigh in and vote on a final deal on Iran’s nuclear program.
McConnell filed cloture on the Iran legislation, after working since last week to try to reach a deal after Sens. Tom Cotton (R-Ark.) and Marco Rubio (R-Fla.), who is running for president, tried to force a vote on an amendment that would require Iran to publicly acknowledge Israel’s right to exist as part of a deal.
The move essentially left McConnell with two choices: File cloture which would block further amendment votes but save the bill or allow for a vote on the Israel amendment which Democrats warn could derail negotations with Iran.
Corker told reporters on Tuesday evening that a final vote on the legislation would likely occur on Thursday.
