Senators will take up legislation that will allow Congress to review and vote on a final Iran nuclear deal.
The Senate will convene at 9:30 a.m. After any leader remarks, senators will restart debate of the Iran legislation, spearheaded by Sen. Bob Corker (R-Tenn.).
{mosads}A procedural vote is expected around 10:30 a.m. on the proposal.
Corker and Sen. Ben Cardin (D-Md.) are trying to reach a deal on a package of amendments, but it’s unclear if they’ll be successful. Sen. David Vitter (R-La.) on Wednesday threatened to block any deal unless a vote was allowed on his amendment.
The Louisiana Republican’s amendment is one of more than 60 submitted by Republican lawmakers that were blocked from getting a vote when Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) filed cloture on the legislation.
Corker told reporters earlier this week that the legislation could pass the Senate on Thursday, but it’s unclear when lawmakers will take a final passage vote.
Under Senate rules, 30 hours of debate are required after the cloture vote unless an agreement to shorten the amount of debate time is reached.
