Senators launch Marine Corps caucus

The Senate’s newly-formed Marine Corps caucus held its first meeting Wednesday.

Sen. Pat Roberts’ (R-Kan.) office announced that he had launched the caucus, and the first meeting was attended by Marine Corps Commandant Gen. Joseph Dunford on Wednesday morning.

{mosads}“It is a privilege and honor to serve my fellow Marines in the U.S. Senate, and I’m honored to establish this group to focus on the unique mission our Marines play in our national security,” Roberts said in a statement. “It is important that every senator understands the issues important to the Marine Corps and their value to our national security.”

Roberts will chair the caucus, with Sens. Dan Sullivan (R-Alaska) and Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn.) co-charing the group.

Sens. John Boozman (R-Ark.), John Cornyn (R-Texas), James Inhofe (R-Okla.), Ron Johnson (R-Wis.), Thom Tillis (R-N.C.), John Thune (R-S.D.) and Mark Warner (D-Va.) are also members of the Marine Corps caucus.

The members will focus on “safety, security, training and wellness” of the Marine Corps, according to Roberts’ office.
