Senator returns to Washington after cancer surgery
Sen. Angus King (I-Maine) is back in Washington after spending two weeks recovering from prostate cancer surgery.
“I feel good, and I’m glad to be back at work in the Senate today — and look forward to tackling the important issues facing our country,” he said in a statement on Monday.
{mosads}King spent two weeks in Maine after his surgery, missing nearly a dozen roll call votes in the Senate.
He also thanked his family, including his wife Mary, as well as his doctors “who did so much to make my recovery smooth and successful.”
Doctors discovered the cancer during the Maine senator’s annual check-up. He was also treated for skin cancer roughly 40 years ago.
After last month’s surgery, King’s wife released a statement calling the procedure “a success and aside from being a bit sore — and boring us all with bad prostate jokes — he’s feeling just fine and already eager to get back to work.”
King’s announcement comes as Sen. Bill Nelson (D-Fla.) is expected to undergo prostate cancer surgery on Monday.
